How do I measure my heart rate?

Many automated blood pressure cuffs also measure heart rate. If you wish to check your heart rate by hand, do the following:

  1. Put two fingers on your wrist below the thumb. Move them around until you locate the pulse in the artery supplying the hand and press gently.
  2. When you can feel it, look at a clock or watch and count the number of beats in a 30 second period.
  3. Multiply by two and you have your heart rate.

If you dont feel comfortable doing this, you can buy an inexpensive heart rate monitor at almost any pharmacy or sporting goods store. Many fitness trackers measure heart rate as well.

Be sure to note your heart rate after youve measured it. You may do this alongside your blood pressure measurement, on the chart below.
