Does it matter which arm I use when measuring my blood pressure?

For most people it doesnt matter which arm you use to measure your blood pressure. Choose the side thats more comfortable for you. If you are right handed, it will probably be easier to measure your blood pressure in your left arm, leaving your right hand free to adjust the cuff and handle the equipment.

However, if your blood pressure is consistently higher in one arm than the other at the doctors office, measure your blood pressure at home on the higher side.

If you have had a mastectomy to treat breast cancer, measure your blood pressure in the unaffected arm to avoid swelling, pain, or discomfort.
